Service/Program:

Voucher Program

Description of service/program:

The Housing Choice Voucher Program (HCV) (previously known as Section 8) offers low-income participants the freedom of choice in finding an opportunity to lease an affordable privately-owned housing unit. The selected unit must meet HUD approved Housing Quality Standards (HQS) upon inspection and the rent for the unit must be determined to be reasonable. MMHA pays the difference between the contract rent and the participants portion, generally 30% of monthly income, with funds from the federal government.

The Housing Choice Voucher Program (Section 8) waiting list is currently closed.

Service limitations (income, geographic, hours, etc):

Eligibility for these units is based on income and a demonstrated ability to comply with all lease provisions through favorable past housing history and a credit check. As a standard, rent should not exceed 30 – 40% of an applicant household’s income, determination will be made on a case by case basis.
